The holidays are on the verge, and that can mean only one thing. Get your tickets NOW for Jinkx Monsoon & Major Scales: Unwrapped at the Laurie Beecham Theater, from December 7 through 10 ONLY. I had the honor of witnessing their last production, The Vaudevillians, and can guarantee that the new show will be a hot list must.

No self-control? David Toussaint, Jinkx Monsoon, and Major Scales.

In name-dropping news, I also spoke to Jinkx, aka Jerick Hoffer, after the Vaudevillians closing-night party, who hugged me several times (or tried to push me away), was extremely quiet (he couldn’t get a word in edge-wise), and couldn’t have been more gracious (anything to get me to leave). Ah, I could feel the love, and soon the restraining order. For tickets, visit www.SpinCycleNYC.com.

Let’s all hope and help.

If you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area on Dec. 1, World AIDS Day, don’t be selfish: Go see Keep the Promise at the Roxie Theatre. KTP is sponsored in part by The HIV Story Project, an amazing group of filmmakers committed to the fight against AIDS. Marc Smolowitz is involved, and that can only be a good thing. If you’re there, pinch his cheeks for me—and then pinch his face. For more information, visit the Facebook Page.

Helping others fight hate.

Back in New York trouble’s been brewing by some self-hating bigots at Cardinal Spellman High School, where Donald Timone of Courgae, an organization that encourages chaste lives for members of the LGBT community, was scheduled to speak on November 19. Enter a lot of petitions and one glamorous alumnus, Miss Coco Peru, and Timone’s speech was canceled… for now. Watch Coco’s video on the subject, and read the Towleroad piece.

Update: While Coco Peru has been tireless in her commitment to fighting bigotry, not everyone in the gay community thinks she is a proper role model. Here is Coco’s personal post to some of the negative reactions she has received:

I know this story is a few days old now, but I wanted to address that even among the gay community and its supporters there are still people who feel that drag is not to be taken seriously or have any value beyond the bars/stage. In response to my having been interviewed by the news about my High School, one person commented, “What is that a drag queen? Not a good face for the movement. I’m sure there is plenty of homosexuals that have graduated that would represent the movement much better.”

I am so tired of the drag bashing when it comes to these issues. I have been an activist and performer for over 23 years now. I have done hundreds of benefits for the community. I have been honored by the LA LGBT Center here in CA for my work in the community. Some people need to open there minds! And let’s not forget that if it weren’t for a contingency of drag queens at Stonewall, we might not even be where we are today! And if I’m not the right person for this, then the next time YOU step up to the plate first and create change. Honestly, I’m tired after 23 years and my feet hurt, but my integrity and commitment to the LGBT “movement” is bigger than that.
Oooohhh, that felt good! To everyone else that has been supportive, you are very much appreciated.

On the book-self.

Since this is the Self-Help Edition, I thought it only appropriate to end with shameless self-promotion. Check out my new book, DJ: The Dog Who Rescued Me, available everywhere. The Advocate put DJ on their hot list for the week—he’s one cool pooch—and we even threw the little guy a party.
