Editor’s Note: It’s been my extreme joy to work with Colton Ford for the past two years. He’s inspiring, fascinating, smart, and fun. His contributions to this site have been amazing, and, like all good things, he’s decided to end on a high note and pursue other writing avenues. I’d wish him luck, but I know he doesn’t need it. He makes his own luck. Thanks, Colton, you big lug! Look forward to our next Starbucks date!!!! xoxo –David Toussaint
Happy New Year! 2014 has arrived! How did you ring it in? Did you make your New Year’s resolutions? Are you glad to see 2013 go? What lessons from the year are you taking with you? What experiences will you remember and cherish, and what are you glad to leave in your rear view? Lots to ponder as we begin a new year.
I ended up spending New Year’s Eve with me, myself, and I. It was the first time in my life that I had been alone on NYE, and it was exactly what I wanted and needed. I had some options, but none made me feel compelled enough to leave my home and go out into the madness. I was also in a more reflective than celebratory mood, so socializing just wasn’t the call. I had a nice quiet evening and reflected back on 2013. It’s been a really tough year, as I’ve discussed in earlier blogs, and I’m very glad to get the new one started!
This past year has challenged me in so many ways, and I’ve been processing all the lessons. Thank God! Recognizing that every challenge carries with it lessons and opportunity that can help us make better sense of hardships, and help us grow from them. We just have to look and be open to seeing them. I am clear that I’ve done and given so much this past year, and I’m clear with what I want to do moving forward to honor and protect that part of myself that is so loving and giving.
I cherish that part of me, but need to be conscious of who and what I should be giving it to. I’m a fighter, and will fight for what’s important, knowing that it’s enabling me to grow and evolve in a way that makes my life better and fuller. I’m excited about what’s in store for me this year, not only in terms of my personal growth, but also in my professional life.
I’ve got a new single coming out early 2014 titled “Look My Way” that I wrote with the amazing Chris Willis and Count de Money. I’ve got a brand new EP coming out also in early 2014 that I wrote with UK Producer, David Barrett, which is being mixed and mastered as I type. We are still determining the album name, but it’s a more acoustic, soul-based record that I think people will dig. I’ve got other coals in the fire that I’m excited to see develop and evolve this year!
Now I’ve been writing blogs for GuySpy for the past two years. In fact, my first blog was created on 12/30/11. It has been a wonderful exploration that I have enjoyed taking with you, and I’m so thankful to GuySpy for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts. Thank you GuySpy, Morris, David, and the whole GuySpy team for all of your support. With that being said, it is time for us to branch off and explore other avenues, so this will be my final blog for the site.
Please follow me on Twitter (@coltonfordmusic) and on Facebook (coltonfordmusic) for all things Colton Ford. I do plan on continuing to blog, and will promote that on my social media once things are laid out. Stay tuned, take care and all the best in 2014 and beyond!
